Editorial 3KG’s project
庭ビルを運営し、庭しんぶんをつくる。3KGは札幌第一こどものとも社と共に、庭プロジェクトに取り組んでいます。庭と聞いてどんな景色が思い浮かびますか？ 庭は、花が咲き、トマトが実り、小鳥がさえずり、こどもたちがはしゃぎ、犬が駆け回る、家の表や裏にある暮らしの余白です。仕事場の隣にもそんなところがあったらいいなぁ、と考え、ろばのこが2階に移転してきた2017年に、私たちが働くビルを「庭ビル」と名付けました。それまで3KGが専有していた建物を、ろばのこと一緒に運営する。それぞれの仕事場を持ちながら、中間に共有のスペースがある。そんな場所をなんと呼ぼうかと考えたら、庭なんじゃないかと思ったのです。
3KGを始めた時はみんな20代でした。結婚し、こどもが生まれてみて気づいたのは、グラフィックデザインスタジオとセレクトショップには、こどもの居場所がないということ。それならつくっちゃおう！と、大好きだった絵本とおもちゃの専門店「ろばのこ」を運営している札幌第一こどものとも社を誘いました。そして思いがけず生まれたのが「庭しんぶん」です。私たちがこどもと暮らす日常や、都会と田舎を行ったり来たりする試行錯誤について、また、私たちが考える未来について記事にしています。
Along with managing the Niiiwa building we publish Niiiwa press a collaborative project between 3KG and Sapporo Daiichi Kodomo no Tomo Co. By the way, what kind of scenery comes to mind when you think about the garden?. A garden seems like a fertile space next to our house where you see flowers blooming, ripped tomatoes… birds chirping, children frolicing, and pets running around. We imagined there was such a good space next to our workplace! That’s why we named our building “Niiiwa building (Garden building)” when a toy store, “Roba-no-ko” moved to its second floor in 2017. We and Roba-no-ko started managing the building together, which was owned by 3KG previously. We thought it should be called "garden" where we have a common space between each of our workplaces.
We realized there is no place for children in our graphic design studio and store after getting married and having a child of our own because we started our company in our 20s. We decided to create a place for children and invited Roba-noko which is managed by Sapporo Daiichi Kodomo no Tomo Co. We loved so much that their store specialized in children's books and toys that we unexpectedly started “Niiiwa press Garden press. The publication focuses on our daily life with children, our trials and tribulations as we move between city and countryside exploring our vision of the future.

庭ビルには気の置けない仲間たちが集まり、洋服、食器、絵本、おもちゃ、レコード、カセットテープなど、各店主が選りすぐった品々を販売しています。また、シェアキッチンでは、それぞれの畑で育てた食材を使った料理をふるまい、ギャラリーでは展覧会やワークショップを開催しています。1階には、cholon、D&DEPARTMENT HOKKAIDO by 3KG、oven universe。そして庭キッチンでは、鐘、たべるとくらしの研究所、牧野農園が営業。2階には、ろばのこ、札幌第一こどものとも社、庭ギャラリー。そして私たち3KGは3階でデザインしています。
In the Niiiwa building, our close friends gather and open their stores selling clothes, furniture, tableware, picture books, toys, records, cassette tapes all personally selected by each owner. In the shared Kitchen, each chef serves delicious dishes such as bread, soup, curry, and pizza using vegetables from their gardens while in the gallery space, exhibitions and workshops are held. On the first floor, there is cholon, D&DEPARTMENT HOKKAIDO by 3KG, and Oven Universe. In the garden kitchen, good dishes are served by Kane, Tabeken and Makino Farm. On the second floor, you can find Roba-no-Ko, Sapporo Daiichi Kodomo no Tomo Co, and Niiiwa Gallery. Our office is located on the third floor of the building.

庭しんぶんは、私たちが毎月発行している新聞です。札幌第一こどものとも社の藤田進が文章を書き、3KGの佐々木信がデザインする。それぞれ得意なものを持ち寄って2017年に創刊したのが始まりです。現在は編集部を編成し、全国各地に散らばる新聞配達員や、あしながおじさんたちに支えられながら発行を続けています。
仕事に熱中するあまり帰宅が遅くなり、息子や娘と過ごす時間が少なくなる……そんな状況を変えたいと考えました。絵本の選書や、写真やデザインなど、自分たちが得意なことを、月に一度はこどもたちのために使って、こどもたちと一緒に新聞をつくる。小学生が読めるように、漢字にはふりがなを振っています。
Niiwa press is our monthly publication, written by Susumu Fujita of Sapporo Daiichi Kodomo no Tomo Co and designed by Shin Sasaki from 3KG, with the first issue being launched in 2017, combining the talents of everyone in the building into a format that we could share with the community at large. Soon after the launch we formed an editorial department that now allows us to continue publishing with the helpful support of the press distributors “Daddy-Long-Legs'' all over Japan.
Like most working families we are unable to spend quality time with our own child whenever we are absorbed in our work and come home late. We wanted to change the situation, so we decided to create Niiiwa press with the help of our children. This balance allows us the opportunity to incorporate their ideas and passions into our work and help others with such things as selecting picture books, photography and design. For elementary school students, we write phonetic guides for Kanji characters plus a host of other material.

2017年に庭キッチンがオープンしたときに出店してくれたのが、「やぎや」と「たべるとくらしの研究所」でした。どちらも、自分たちが育てた野菜や、裏山で採った山菜などを使っておいしい料理をつくります。そこに近づきたくて、1.3haの畑を借りて耕しています。農場で働いていた経験がある藤田進くん（庭しんぶん編集長）がリーダー。農場長の首藤康子さんを中心に、鹿に作物を食べられたりしながら、少しずつできることを増やしているところ。
"Yagiya'' and "Tabeken (Lab of Food and Life)" started their stores soon after opening Niiiwa kitchen in the 2000s. Both of them cook delicious dishes using their vegetables and wild plants pickked in the hills. We want to get even one step closer to them, we rented a 1.3 hectare field of our own which we cultivate our own organic produce. The leader of our farm is Mr. Susumu Fujita (chief editor of Niiiwa press)、 who has extencive horticultural experience. Led by Ms.Yasuko Suto, our farm manager, we are doing more and more to expand our field, even with the intrusion of wildlife into the fields we try to produce the best possible produce while being aware that we also share the space with nature.
